The Art of Linking

Information Retrieval (IR) provides techniques and tools not just for retrieving documents, but also for a lot of closely related tasks. IR techniques have been used, for example, to identify semantic similarities (or links) between textual documents. In this talk I will present the results of a few projects, spanning over several years, using IR to determine semantic relationships between very different objects, like for example electronic book pages, police criminal reports or blogs, to determine important properties of the objects. This is still IR, but maybe not as you know it.
