David Monk (introduction: P. Roux) - Former SEG president, currently Founder and chief technical advisor at ACTeQ
---
In this presentation Dave look backwards at the history of seismic acquisition and show how the technology has changed, but in places use a technology of the future – Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) to review where seismic started, look into the history of technology development (of both AI and seismic acquisition) and then look a little at the future of seismic. Artificial Intelligence is viewed by many as having a huge impact on geophysics in general. It is the “lens” of future geophysics, but by using some of the A.I. technology of today, I try to illustrate some of the short comings of commonly used A.I. systems. While A.I. may be useful in some applications where solutions or answers are not necessarily based on scientific data. Some solutions often fall short of being accurate or correct.
